Question: How long will the current DFS sale last?

Last few days?
Last few years?
Last few decades?
Until the Sun explodes

Am just in the process of paying for my DFS deferred credit double discount winter sale couch. Can this business model of selling at such fantastically discounted prices continue forever?

Nah, they're not fantastic discounts. Just like Homebase, the prices are extortionate any time there isn't a sale on, but normal the rest of the time. We paid £750 for a "P" shaped shower/bath in Homebase's half-price sale a few years ago, and afterwards I realised that was probably just a normal price for such a bath.

Saying that, I still got duped by Land of Leather's "sale" 2 Christmases ago.

They even said on their last advert 'we only have two sales per year', its just that each one seems to last 6 months!

Hi Siu loong

I think they have to have a 15 minute tea break between the winter and summer sales.

There was a watchdog style thing on once, that investigated the fact that the real RRP was only ever printed on sheets, and never actually made it to real physical sofa's on the shop floor - on confrontation they said - "they must have been low in stock"

Ah, the mentality of sales: it's reduced in price so it must be a bargain and I should buy it.

My view is: if it was normally advertised at the sale price, would I still think it was good value for money?

There are plenty of businesses that rely on permanent "sales", whatever consumer protection legislation may say.

Speaking of Homebase, they drive me mad with their 10% days. They are attempting complete control over our spending habits. I try to buy on non-10% days just to show them who's boss, but end up feeling guilty when I realise how much I could have saved if I had less pryde, sorry, pride.

To try and avoid the guilt trip, I normally opt for Block & Quale instead (keep that one for the next pub quiz/"millionaire" guest appearance).
