HSBC Credit Limits (Read 4014 times)

Much happiness. But much despair at credit limit of £2k. Will never make it through the trenches of Asda and Tesco for the next 12 months. Is this a typical approach to limit the level of financial exposure? And what are the chances of getting an increase? NewStu

Feb 2008 at 19:36 It will be based on your credit history of course, and a general market approach to the credit crunch issue. There is no harm asking for an increase of course, and a human interface might take on your reasons better than an automated calculator. My personal experience of HSBC was years of not even getting a card!

Did you have any success on activation?

I've just obtained a new John Lewis card with a similar limit (also HSBC). I had a very pleasant chat to the CSA who told me that they would need to see at least 3 months of activity before they would consider an increase. They automatically review limits on an annual basis + will raise/lower limits depending on usage. It was suggested a low limit was due to existing credit cards + debits.

Does anybody know if HSBC offer repeats on either BT's or purchases? This is the first time I've had one of their cards.

Has taken me six months to reply to this, oops.

No success on credit limit being increased at activation point, they wanted to see partners card management for the usual six months. They did increase it following about four months to £4k, not huge but is a 100% uplift.

May see if another uplift can be obtained when start hitting the buffers again.

Phoned for a CL increase after clearing my balance + was only given a £800 increase without a credit search. Tough times. Will try for another 0% deal but not getting my hopes up reading other posts. M.
