Capitol One 0% ending soon
28. Mar 2008 at 14:50

Hi, This is my first post to the forum so I hope you can help?

I have a capitol one 0% card(Maxed out at £14500) that ends at the end of April  Cry.If I rang them asking for a possible extention, are they likely to refuse?
Also does a request like this go on my credit file?
Thanks

Capital One are very good generally - they may or may not extend, but you may well get an offer of a lower interest rate than the standard APR.

If not I would suggest having a look at our tables to find yourself a replacement, but with the much hyped credit crunch - lenders are being picky so get one earlier rather than later. It might be worth considering a Life of Balance card.

NB - requesting an extension won't go on your record.

May I ask how you ran up the balance? It might help with ta better answer.

Welcome Beijaflor

To be honest, it is unlikely that they would extend your 0% deal if you still had a balance on the card. They offer 0% deals precisely with the hope that users will carry a balance beyond the introductory period, so that the lender can earn interest. Don't get me wrong, there is no harm in asking but I can't see why they would give you a 0% extension. Read our Guide to getting a 0% Extension for tips on how to get one.

With your 0% ending at end of April, you have just enough time to apply for another card with a 0% BT offer (or a Life of Balance) and to transfer the balance across, but I wouldn't hang around if you want to do that.

Returning to Capital One as a lender. I have never seen them offer 0% extensions (even if you do follow our guide above). However, they usually treat you as a new customer as soon as you close a card with them. This means that you can pay off a card then apply for another one a couple of days later.

Best of luck. Let us know how you get on.

I transfered £7500 from M&S card when 12 mnth 0% was due to end
I also transfered £2500 from First direct gold card(no 0% on this)
The remainder went to my egg Money card and into offset Mortgage

I also have a 12 mnth Sainsbury card (10 mnths 0% remaining) but
with only £1500 limit - This is maxed out also
I asked for a credit limit increase but they have refused at the moment.
